Former captain of the Black Stars and Ambassador for Ghana 2014 World Cup, Charles Kobina Akunnor, has revealed that he and Augustine Arhinful were given popular stand match tickets, for the World Cup match against United States of America (USA).
Testifying before the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Presidential Commission of Inquiry, Akunnor said, they were not treated as Ambassadors, as per their role during the World Cup.
“My Lord, we thought we were ambassadors, so we will be given VIP tickets but to our surprise, we were given Popular Stand tickets for the match against USA.
“We were however given VIP tickets later on by a staff of Kenpong Travel and Tours and who met us before the match.
“It was an unpleasant experience in Brazil. The idea of taking us to the World Cup was good, but those who executed the task did not do it will,” he stated.
According to Akunnor, there were compelled to sleep at the airport after the second match against Germany in Fortaleza.
He said the experience in Brazil was not pleasant adding that, some of them were embarrassed and furious after going through some of the challenges in Brazil.
