Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that he will take action against his party if they fail to repeal the 10% betting tax.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration eliminates the betting tax introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

During an interview on TV3, he cautioned that if the NDC government does not follow through on repealing the tax as promised, he will mobilise support to vote out the government in the 2028 elections.

Basintale emphasised, "The ten percent betting tax, the boys say scrap it. If we are unable to repeal it within four years, I will personally lead the charge to oppose the NDC. There's no excuse. How will we justify it to them?"

He added, "So, if you fail to deliver on what the people demanded, you should step forward, admit it, and say, ‘Vote me out,’ as straightforward as that. That is what we expected the NPP to do."

The NDC government is set to be inaugurated on January 7, 2024, following their significant victory in the 2024 general elections.

John Mahama pledged to eliminate the betting tax if elected president, prompting calls from some youth, particularly football fans engaged in betting, for him to honor his commitment.
