‘I won’t force myself for a national team call-up’ – Nii Adjei

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfield dynamo, Daniel Nii Adjei has revealed that the constant Black Stars snub is not a bother to him but all depends on the technical handlers, who deem it fit when to invite him and when not to.

Nii Adjei joined DR Congo’s TP Mazembe in 2013 from Asante Kotoko and has been a constant feature for the team. He helped the team to the CAF Champions League finals but unfortunately lost to Tunisian CS Sfaxien on a 3-2 goal aggregate.

The 28-year-old has won two continental trophies with ‘The Ravens’ – clinching the Champions League last year and topping it up with the Confederation Cup this year after beating Algerian MO Bejaia in a 5-2 goal aggregate on Sunday. In addition, the marauding midfielder has won three league titles and super cups since joining the Congolese team.

Despite receiving a late call-up to be part of the national team in 2015 which saw the Black Stars defeat Congo by 3-2, Nii-Adjei speaking exclusively to Benjamin Yamoah on the Ultimate Sports Zone stressed that he is focused on getting much playing time at the club level.

“If am called to the national team fine, but if am not, no problem. The most important thing is to keep on working hard for my club since I receive my daily bread playing for TP Mazembe.

“To receive a call-up will be a plus or bonus but won’t constantly rely on it or force myself.

“More importantly, am bent on helping my club to perform well by winning trophies.

“Maybe if I were to come from Zambia or Congo I might get a call-up but am from Ghana. I can’t compare myself to anyone.”

The former Asante Kotoko player responded to rumours making rounds that TP Mazembe are not interested in further signing Ghanaian players again, acclaim Adjei labelled as a complete fallacy and unfounded.

“I don’t know who brought this thing up and where he got his information from because there no such thing here [Congo].

“The person behind it has no information about what goes on in Congo with the club. He is a big liar” he told Ultimate Fm

Adjei, who has one year left on his contract says he is not in a rush for a move away from the club but will see out his contract and get to know what to do next.
