Ibrahim Musah: The sad story of how Nima's 'biggest' talent had his career wrecked by devastating injury

Ibrahim Musah, affectionately known as Teyshie, has become a topic of discussion after his outside-of-the-boot (trivela) pass during a kickabout with West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus caught the eyes of many.

In a viral video, Teyshie located the Black Stars midfielder with a phenomenal trivela pass during a beautiful passing sequence while Kudus played football on a sandy pitch with some friends in Nima.

Reacting to the pass, some Ghanaians began to inquire about the club Teyshie plays for so they could follow his performances. Unfortunately, it turns out he is a statistic of talented footballers whose careers were cut short due to significant injuries.

Abdul Rashid Zakari, project head for the Ghanaian sportswear manufacturer Mayniak Sports, took to Twitter (formerly X) to share Teyshie's sombre football career story.

Rashid, who grew up with Teyshie in Nima and spent four years as his roommate, describes him as a footballer who relied more on his intellect than on energy and physicality, making him stand out among his peers.

Rashid stated that although Teyshie idolized Thierry Henry, his playing style was more akin to French legend and arguably the greatest midfielder ever Zinedine Zidane.

At his peak, Teyshie played for the now-defunct Division 1 side Kingdoko FC. He was the face of the club and attracted interest from Ghana Premier League clubs, including Hearts of Lions.

Lions expressed keen interest, but Kingdoko refused to release their poster boy for reasons best known to them.

Some youths in Nima, who hoped to see Teyshie play at the highest level, marched to Kingdoko's office to plead for the player's release. However, their plea fell on deaf ears as the club declined Lions' offer.

Teyshie would go on to suffer a devastating shin injury during a league game.

Rashid, in his narration, stated that the bones around Teyshie's shin area broke, similar to the injury Eduardo Da Silva suffered while at Arsenal.

Teyshie underwent two different healing processes after his bones failed to fuse following the initial treatment.

"He was attended to by the hospital, but it later emerged that the healing bones were not joining as expected. The leg had to be broken again and fixed to what he walks on now," Rashid explained.

Although he recovered fully, clubs were hesitant to take a chance on him due to his injury history.

He went to Saudi Arabia for a short stint, followed by a spell in the United States of America, before retiring.

Ibrahim Musah 'Teyshie' may not have reached his potential or become a household name in Ghana football, but within Nima and its surrounding areas, he is highly regarded and has a substantial reputation as one of the best footballers ever in the community.
