Ignisious Gaisah: I’m happy with my performance

Long jumper Ignisious Gaisah has expressed his happiness at jumping beyond 8 meters again at the 2012 rLGGhana Grand Prix. Gaisah, a bronze medalist at the just ended 2012 African Athletics Championship, thrilled spectators during the competition at the Baba Yara Sports stadium with some elegant jumps. This comes only a week after the Dutch based athlete struggled for form at the African Championships in Benin, where he could only jump 7.98m after a 17 hour bus journey from Accra to Porto Novo. Speaking to www.liquidsportsghana.com, Ignisious Gaisah could not hide his joy at his performance saying it’s a sign of good things to come at the Olympics. “It’s a really positive sign because being consistent is always great because you only need one good jump, then you are there.” “I jumped 8.04m, 8.01m and then 7.95m. That showed I had some consistency.” Gaisah has lacked consistency in his performances in recent times and the fact that he jumped twice beyond 8m was a very special occasion for him.

“I was happy I was able to jump over 8m again: not once but twice. “I’m not really 100% satisfied but I will take it as it is because I was expecting to jump further.”

With less than three weeks to the London Olympics, Gaisah appears to have peaked at the right time and says he is excited at the prospect of competing at the world biggest stage again.

“I’m very excited about the Olympics.” My manager has found me some few competitions to sharpen me up ahead of the Olympics.”

The 2006 World Indoor Champion added, “I can’t wait to compete at the Olympics in the colours of Ghana.”

When asked about the prospect of a gold medal in London, Gaisah said, “a gold medal will be really fine and I will not refuse it if I get the opportunity.”
