Ghana international Inaki Williams came off the bench to score in Athletic Club's 2-0 away win over Leganes in a Spanish La Liga match on Thursday.

Despite being named in the matchday squad, the Black Stars striker started on the bench.

With the game tied at 0-0, Williams was introduced in the 56th minute, replacing Alvaro Djalo. His impact was immediate as Athletic Club broke the deadlock just 10 minutes later, with Dani Vivian converting a pass from Gorka Guruzeta to put the visitors ahead.

In the 75th minute, Inaki Williams made his mark, receiving an assist from Andoni Gorosabel and slotting the ball into the Leganes net to double Athletic Club’s lead and secure all three points.

The Black Stars striker's impressive performance highlights his value to Athletic Club, and he is expected to play a key role for the team throughout the 2024/25 season.

Following the win today, Athletic Club has moved to 5th in the La Liga standings ahead of the Round 8 contest against Celta Vigo on Sunday, September 22.

Ghana will also be counting on Williams to carry this form into the upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
