Inter Allies' talented midfielder Evans Mensah has been handed his debut Ghana call-up for the Black Stars' 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique following his excellent showing in the country's top-flight.

The nimble-footed midfielder was handed the late call-up by Ghana coach Avram Grant on Tuesday to replace injured Chicago Fire striker David Accam.

The invitation comes as a massive boost for players in the exciting Ghana top-flight league which has seen so many talented players and excitement this season.

The call-up, which was revealed by the Ghana FA in a Twitter post, boosts the notion that players in the country can also compete for positions in the Black Stars.

Accam was part of the original squad released by the Israeli coach but was ruled out of because of a knee injury suffered while with his club.

He sprained his knee in training with his MLS club and expected to spend two weeks in the treatment which has led to the decision to replace him.

Grant has decided to give Mensah the chance to impress with the national team after monitoring him with the local league. The youngster's performance had already been confirmed by the Ghana FA spokesman just 24 hours ago.

The Inter Allies was impressive when Grant watched their match against Dreams FC in Tema two weeks ago and has continued with his good performances with several man-of-the-match awards.

Mensah will now play a part in Ghana's qualifier with Mozambique at Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday or the second leg in Maputo four days later.
