Interview: Commonwealth champion James Armah

06.06 - Unbeaten commonwealth lightweight champion James "Bkom Fire" Armah of Ghana now (12-0) 6 KO's speaks about his last fight. We ran into Armah at the Lewis-Tyson fight in Memphis, TN. The commonwealth champion won his last fight on June 4, by points against Chris Bertten in London. He's what Armah had to say.....

How would you describe your last fight against Chris Bertten last week?
It was a good fight that went to the distance. I knew I could beat him easy.

What title did you win as amateur?
I won the national championship and world junior championship. I'm a two-time commonwealth champion. I won the jr lightweight and lightweight.

Why did you choose to be a boxer?
I use to play soccer a lot but Ike Quartey was my close friend so I started to work with him years age. I learn a lot from him.

What's your impression of Ike Quartey?
He's a great boxer and a great person. He's like a master to me, he brought me into the game.

What did you think about the Lewis-Tyson fight?
I knew Lennox Lewis was going to win him. I predicted Lewis to stop Tyson in round 7.

Your most memorable moment in Boxing?
It was when I fought for the African title against Sia Augustine from Ivory Coast. I stopped him in the 7th round at the Accra Stadium.

What's your impression of Floyd Mayweather jr?
He's a good boxer but I want to fight one day. I know I can give him problems. They don't like to fight anyone who is a trait to them. I have fought three times in United States and I hope to come back here and face all the champions in my class. I'm the commonwealth champion so they all know me so why don't we get it on. I'll come from London and beat them just like Lennox Lewis came and knockout Mike Tyson. I want to fight all the champion in the lightweight division including Paul, the IBF champion.

Any comment to your fans?
I want to thank all my fans for their support and I'll continue to give them what they want.

What's next for you?
I'm looking to fight next month.
