Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has called for an investigation into the alleged financial mismanagement at the Sports Ministry.

In the wake of the nationwide controversy over monies paid for broadcasting and accreditation tags at the 13th African Games, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah believes taxpayers deserve some answers on how the monies were spent.

Speaking on the sidelines of the National Democratic Congress' manifesto launch, the ex-sports minister called for a probe into the sports ministry just like how he was investigated after the 2014 World Cup fiasco.

“These people, they went to where AFCON, all the mess. Why is it that they have not been investigated?” he quizzed during an interview with Channel One TV.

"President (John) Mahama investigated me. [I was his campaign manager] Live everybody saw it. Of course, they should be investigated," he added.

In a recent report, the chairman of Parliament's Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Tourism, Kobena Mensah Woyome alleged that the country spent in excess of $4 million on the Games Management System.

An additional $3.6 million was paid to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for the coverage of the games which lasted for 15 days.
