Phil Ofosu-Ayeh has not played one minute of Championship football - and Premier League bound Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting reinforcements.
You have to feel for Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have cruised to the Championship title in fine style this season but the defender they signed last summer from Bundesliga 2 outfit Eintracht Braunschweig has not played a single minute.
Ofosu-Ayeh has suffered a series of ankle problems and has only been seen in Wolves colours for Scott Sellars’ U23 side, and you have to wonder now whether his Wolves career is all but done before he has even made his first-team bow.
Because with Wolves preparing for life in the Premier League, the Black Country side are scouring the market for new additions at right-back.
The Mirror stated last week that they are keen on signing Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks when his contract expires at the end of the season. Fredericks has been one of the best full-backs in the Championship over the last two seasons, setting up seven goals in 2017/18.
And Tuttomercatoweb reports that Wolves are also tracking Fiorentina’s Portuguese flyer Bruno Gaspar, who is also a target for Greek giants Olympiacos. Either Bruno or Fredericks could arrive to compete with Matt Doherty, the fleet-footed Irishman who has been one of Wolves’ unsung heroes over an excellent couple of months.
So the chances of Ofosu-Ayeh salvaging his Wolves career look a little slim as things stand.
