Former Black Stars defender Gabriel Issah Ahmed has disclosed his readiness to make a return to the Ghana Premier League.

The 33-year-old, who was a member of Ghana’ 2006 Fifa World Cup squad in Germany, joined Danish outfit Randers in 2006 after spending three years with local giants Asante Kotoko.

“I will surely come back very soon,” Ahmed told Ash FM.

“I have been training and trying to shape myself for the season. I will announce my return at the right time.”

The centre-back won two league titles with Kotoko during his time in the local topflight, and was also part of the Porcupine Warriors set-up that fell to rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup final.

“Quality players in the system [Ghana Premier League] today are very scarce,” Ahmed added. “They are not as many as we had during our days in Ghana.”

“Clubs like Kotoko and Hearts always want to go for African club competitions and perform but the quality of the players we have is such that they can’t perform.”

“I know many people may misquote me but what I want to establish is that, we don’t have quality players in the league like we used to during our days.”

Ahmed also featured for Ghana at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
