It's Over For Ghana: 0 Gold 0 Silver 0 Bronze

Team Ghana's ( 9 Athletes + 12 Officials) campaign at the Olympic Games ended on the ninth day of competition with a medal overhaul of ZERO-gold; ZERO-silver; -ZERO-gold. Ghana's first appearance at the Olympic Games was in 1952 in Helsinki. Ghana is yet to win a gold medal at the Olympics. The last time Ghana won a medal, was a bronze, in 1992 in Barcelona, by the U-23 soccer team.

Here’s a recap of Ghana’s poor performance:

  • Margaret Simpson (Hepthatlete) - Pulled out due to Acute Kidney Infection
  • Ignatius Gaisah (Long Jumper): Failed to qualify from more than thirty jumpers with a jump of 7.79meters
  • Vida Anim (200 meters): Failed to qualify for the semi finals of the 200meters after recording her seasons best of 23.7secs

  • Alberta Ampomah (weightlifting +75kg): 13th out of 14 weighlifters in her division

  • Maxwell Amponsah (Boxing): Withdrew on medical grounds
  • Duke Micah (Boxing) - Lost terribly in the round of 16 of the men’s flyweight 52 kg division
  • Isaac Dogbe (Boxing): failed to progress beyond the first bout
  • Suleiman Tetteh (Boxing): Eliminated in first bout

  • Emmanuel Nartey(Judo): Eliminated in first bout
