Ace sports journalist, Patrick Osei Agyemang, alias Countryman Songo, has posited that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Sudan and the Black Stars is a perfect opportunity for Ghanaians to gauge the coaching competence of Kwasi Appiah and his Ghanaian counterpart, Otto Addo.

Songo, who has been a constant critic of Otto Addo, whom he describes as a ‘trainer scout,’ reckons the game will show that Ghana made an error in re-appointing Otto Addo.

“That match is between our former coach who has improved and is leading Sudan, and our coach who took us to the World Cup and resigned after realizing that he could not hack it. We want to see who is who, and that match must be played in Ghana,” he said.

While the date for the match has been decided, the venue is still not known as Ghana is scrambling to get a stadium ready for the tournament.

The country’s poor maintenance culture reached an apogee after the Confederation of African Football withdrew its conditional approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which happened to be the country’s only approved venue for international matches.

Following the ban, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association have been working around the clock to get a place ready for the game, with the Cape Coast Stadium undergoing intensive renovation works.

Commenting on the development, Countryman Songo stated that it would be sacrilegious for the game to be played anywhere other than Ghana.

According to him, Ghanaians must be given the chance to witness the coaching prowess of Otto Addo and Kwasi Appiah.

“They've closed down the stadiums to work on them, and I believe that one of the four stadiums will be fit. The game against Sudan must not be played outside Ghana. It must be played here for us to support the team and see the readiness of the team,” he said.

The first leg of the doubleheader is scheduled for October 11, with the second leg coming four days later.
