Member of the defunct Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee, Lawyer Duah Adonteng has thrown his weight behind those calling on locally-based players to accept a pay cut to ease the financial burden on clubs amid the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.

Over the last several weeks, some club administrators have been pushing for local players to accept a due to the suspension of the Ghana Premier League.

According to the astute legal practitioner and former Management Member of Asante Kotoko, the pay cut suggestions is necessary because the clubs have lost their main source of revenue due to the suspension of the league.

“I was made Accra representative for Asante Kotoko in 1983 so I understand how the clubs feel. It will be ideal for players to take pay cuts to ease the financial burden that will arise due to the suspension of the league,” he told Kumasi-based Sikka FM.

He added that the calls from the Ghanaian clubs for the government to come to their aid financially are inappropriate.

“Clubs call on government for financial assistance is inappropriate. The Government’s decision on observing the social distance protocol is laudable. We as Ghanaians should adhere to the directives” he concluded.
