Veteran Ghanaian trainer Malik Jabir says it will take a very long time for the Black Stars to win the Africa Cup of Nations should coaches continue to rely on foreign based players.
Ghana has gone 37 years without winning the continental accolade after failing to clinch the 2019 edition in Egypt.
According to him, it is about time coaches involve the services of the local players as he believes there are good players in the scene.
He cited the central defense of Brekum Chelsea (Zakaria Fuseini and Ahmed Adams) as one of the best in the GPL after watching them play against Kotoko and is optimistic they can succeed for the Black Stars with a little bit of grooming.
The former Ghana U23 trainer entreated national team coaches to bring outstanding performers in the Ghana Premier League together during breaks while they work on them to fish out the best for the national team.
“If we will rely solely on foreign based players who are not permanent players for their clubs to win AFCON for us, it will take us a very long time. It is up to us to look at it very well” he told Angel FM in Kumasi.
