Italian-Ghanaian tennis star, Jasmine Paolini, lost the Grand Slam tennis final to Czech player, Barbora Krejcikova on Saturday, July 14.
Barbora Krejcikova won her first Wimbledon title after holding off Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 on Centre Court.
The Czech tennis star started strong, dominating the first set brilliantly.
However, Jasmine Paolini fought back impressively in the following sets, forcing the match into a decisive third set.
In the tense third set, Krejcikova gained momentum by breaking Paolini's serve when the score was tied at 3-3. She eventually secured victory on her third match point, winning the Wimbledon title to add to her French Open achievement from 2021.
The defeat comes as a big disappointment for Paolini as she recently lost in the French Open final and had hoped to become the first Italian-Ghanaian player to win the singles title at Wimbledon.
Jasmine Paolini, after the match, expressed her disappointment but was impressed with her progress.
“The last two months have been crazy for me. Today, I am a little bit sad. I try to keep smiling because I have to remember today is still a good day. I made the final of Wimbledon,” she said according to the BBC.
Paolini will represent Italy at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
