Ivanovic injury could pave way for Rahman

Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman could be the major beneficiary at Chelsea with the injury of Branislav Ivanovic.

The 31-year-old came off injured in the 65th minute while playing for Serbia in their 2-0 win over Albania in the 2016 Euro qualifier on Thursday night.

Ivanovic is suspected to have sustained a hamstring injury and was replaced by Dusko Tosic.

This injury could force Jose Mourinho to finally make the much craved change to his starting lineup by benching the Serbian defender.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow man has been blamed for Chelsea’s stuttering start to the season due to his poor form.

Mourinho has however been reluctant to make this change and claimed Ivanovic remains the best right-back at Chelsea.

This unfortunate situation however appears to be a blessing in disguise for Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman who is still waiting to make his Premiership debut with Chelsea since his summer arrival.

The former Augsburg man joined Chelsea in a move reportedly worth over €25m but has struggled to for playing time.

Rahman could now get his chance at his favourite left-back position while regular Cesar Azpilicueta is restored to his original right-back position as a replacement for the injured Ivanovic.

The Ghana international must now take his chance well when the opportunity arises by impressing Jose Mourinho to ensure he remains in the starting lineup to continue to keep Ivanovic out even after he returns from his latest injury setback.
