Former coach of Liberty Professionals J.E Sarpong has expressed his disappointment over the sacking of Yusif Abubakar as coach of Aduana Stars.

GHANAsoccernet.com exclusively reported on Tuesday that, the Dormaa-based outfit has mutually terminated the contract of coach Yusif Abubakar following their unimpressive start to the campaign.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Metro FM, veteran trainer J.E Sarpong bemoaned the timing for the sacking of his colleague, which he insists is wrong as they are left with just seven days to face Congolese giants A.S vita club in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“I feel sorry for Yusif Abubakar who has just left Aduana Stars and I also think it’s not healthy for a club playing a continental game just the week ahead of us to part ways with its head coach” he emphasized.

“To be honest, somebody like Yussif is a fantastic coach and let me say that he deserves to handle even a national team but the old system of the GFA didn’t recognize him. National team jobs were given based on biased preferences, they looked at your face and award you a job. I don’t know why Yusif has not been even given a national team duty as at now. It’s sad how his stay has ended at Aduana. I wish him well”

The veteran trainer also touched on why coaches hardly last even beyond 4 years at Ghanaians clubs.

“You see people should stop drawing the comparison with European or foreign clubs and their coaches. What the Europeans have and how they’ve grown in the football business , we are not at their level and so we cannot expect our coaches to stay at a club say for 4 or 5 years.”

He added: ” It won’t happen here. With this interference and way of doing things? There are even clubs here in Ghana that dictate for their coaches telling them how to pick their teams and all that and it’s unfortunate.”
