The former national U-23 assistant coach wants the Black Stars boss to reveal his exact plans for the team
Veteran Ghanaian coach Joseph Emmanuel 'JE' Sarpong wants answers from Black Stars boss James Kwesi Appiah over an ‘apparent change of direction’ of the national set-up.

Since assuming duty last year, Appiah has been on what has looked like a rebuilding mission in the wake of the team's disappointing 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign under former coach Avram Grant. The exercise saw some supposed 'old' players dropped for fresh blood.

His latest assembly, though, looks like a deviation following call-ups to the likes of 31-year-old John Boye, 32-year-old Harrison Afful as well as Daniel Opare and Abdul Majeed Waris, who turn 28 and 27 respectively by the next two months.

“Kwesi Appiah has held everything [concerning the direction of the team] in secrecy. He needs to come out and explain issues," Sarpong told Angel TV.

"He and the technical team should open their eyes, their jobs are on the line.

"There is no longer an FA to impose players on him, so he needs to be consistent in his selections.

"Ghanaians complain a lot, they will also begin to talk when they become fed up.

"I have no qualms with the players selected, but he made us understand he was building a team, so what is happening now?"

Appiah's latest squad also has a debut call-up for 28-year-old Belgium-based striker William Owusu Acheampong.

Ghana are set to play away to Kenya in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on September 8.
