Former Asante Kotoko captain and FIFA football agent, Yusif Chibsah believes that the weed(marijuana) comments from veteran coach J.E Sarpong has the tendency of bringing the already tainted Ghana Premier League brand.

Coach J.E Sarpong some days ago alleged that over 60 percent of Division One League and Ghana Premier League players are weed addicts.

He went further to say that " the late Ghana FA chairman Ben Koufie one time he had to buy marijuana for Robert Mensah before he kept the post for the Black Stars".

Adding his voice to the discussion, Chibsah who is the spokesperson for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana(PFAG) in an interview with GhanaWeb said the comment from the veteran coach is just unfortunate.

"It's quite unfortunate, I'm not here to condemn what he said or to testify that it is true or not but my point is that it is an open secret. Even in Europe, you might have players who smoke weed."

"But here we are in a country that we've gone through a lot of issues Anas expose, Normalization Committee and now COVID-19. We have gone through a lot and we are now trying to rebrand the product- Ghana Premier League and then this comment comes."

"If you weigh the options, such comments do more harm than good to the players and the Ghana Premier League. There could have been a better way to channel this issue than the way coach Sarpong said it blatantly on air. We are in contact with the GFA's medical team to put in measures that will deter the players from such an act." Yussif Chibsah told GhanaWeb.
