Japanese-Ghanaian goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was sent off in Parma’s 2-1 loss to Napoli on Saturday night at the Maradona Stadium in a Serie A matchday three clash.
The 22-year-old was dismissed after 75 minutes following a dangerous tackle on David Neres, receiving a straight red card.
Suzuki signed for Parma this summer from Belgian Pro League side St. Truiden.
Parma, who beat Milan last week, appeared to be on their way to a second surprise win of the season, thanks to a 19th-minute penalty from Ange-Yoan Bonny.
The visitors had chances to extend their lead, but Antonio Conte’s men looked more threatening after the break, especially when new signing Lukaku entered the pitch.
The momentum shifted significantly when Zion Suzuki was shown a second yellow card for a foul on David Neres, forcing defender Enrico Del Prato to take over in goal, as no substitutions were available.
Napoli thought they had won a penalty for a foul on Giovanni Simeone, only for it to be overturned by VAR in the 90th minute.
But Lukaku equalized two minutes later with a low shot from 12 yards, set up by a Leonardo Spinazzola through ball. Zambo Anguissa’s header then sealed the win in the 96th minute, sending the home crowd into ecstasy.
