In a surprise move for many observers, Jimmy Cobblah has been named the new head coach for the Ghana male Under-20 national team, known as the Black Satellites.

His appointment was conveyed in a publication via the Ghana FA website Monday night.

Cobblah previously worked with Ghana Premier League sides Wa All Stars and Inter Allies before taking up a challenge in Togo with Maranatha FC.

He reunites with his former assistant at Wa All Stars Nuru Ahmed who has been promoted from the Ghana Under-17 team, a decision which has been hailed to help in the progression of the talent from the recent Black Starlets team which made a quarterfinal berth at the Fifa World Cup in India last year.

Cobblah and his backroom will have to begin building a team in earnest as they have only two months to kick-start their qualification campaign to the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s opponents are yet to be confirmed but per the calendar announced by the GFA, the Black Satellites will be busy on the road during the Easter weekend (Sat, March 31 to Sun, April 1) where they will play their first qualifier. The Satellites will host the second leg of that qualifier on April 22.
