If you happen to be a Ghanaian sports enthusiast, then you might have come across the popular saying, ‘Over to you Joe Lartey’.

Joachim Awuley Lartey, who became famous as ‘Joe Lartey’ was a former broadcaster who earned his name in the sporting fraternity thanks to his appreciation of football commentary.

He and his friend Festus Addae dominated the sports scene during their hay-days as sports broadcasters for over a decade.

Addae will often use the expression ‘Over to you Joe Lartey’ to introduce the former broadcaster to take over the commentary position.

Today, however, marks a special day in the life of the man who was the first president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, Mr. Joe Lartey.

The former Ghana Broadcasting Corporation turns 93 years today. Still very healthy, he marks the day with his wife who’s he has been married to for more than 70 years.

Some months ago, Joe Lartey who was a former teacher and a member of the veterans who fought in World War II shared some revealing stories of his time in the military with GhanaWeb.

In the exclusive interview on the Untold show, Joe Lartey unfolded events that happened during his time in the navy as a 16-year-old boy sent to the King Tom barracks at Freetown, Sierra Leone for training.
