Joetex confirms Black Stars invitation

Ghana's hottest striker in the African continent, Joetex Frimpong, who plays club football for double African champions, Enyimba Football Club of Nigeria, has confirmed his invitation to the Black Stars for the June 5 Egypt 2006 Africa Nations Cup and Germany 2006 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso, in Kumasi.

Joetex, who is the leading scorer for his Nigerian club in the CAF Champions League with 5 goals revealed this to www.ghanaweb.com in an interview, on Saturday.

"An official of the Ghana Football Association called me during the week to inform me about my invitation to the sqaud. He told me to expect my letter of invitation as it has been sent to the Nigeria Football Association," he said.

Speaking on the invitation, the Ghanaian said: "I was excited when the GFA official called me. In fact, some of my friends in Nigeria had also called me after reading about it in the internet. I am really looking forward to the match since I was unable to make the last match against Congo Democratic Republic when I was invited.

"As a Ghanaian from the Ashanti region, it gives me joys that I would play in front of my people about two years after playing for the U-23 team in Obuasi."

Asked about his relationship with other members of the squad, Joetex replied: "I played with some of them in the U-23 team and had a stint in the Black Stars under former coach, Burkhard Ziese. In fact, Asamoah Gyan was in that match in the attack. They are all great guys and I am anxious to join them again. Don't forget that Enyimba played Hearts in the Super Cup."

Joetex added that he is also looking forward to meeting the new coach, Ratomir Djukovic, his assistants and the GFA officials. According to him: "I play in Nigeria, but I am always happy to come home and wear the Ghanaian colours. It is the dream of every Ghanaian player to represent Ghana. I want to play in the Nations Cup and World Cup like my former Enyimba teammate, Vincent Enyeama, who is the Nigerian goalkeeper."
