John Boye snatches winner for FC Metz in Ligue 1

John Boye responded to Black Stars snub by scoring the winning goal for FC Metz against Olympique Nimes in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Boye was left out of the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifiers against Sudan despite being the nations best central defender in Europe.

When coach Charles Akonnor was quizzed on why he excluded the in-form guardsman from his squad, the former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko coach asked the journalist whether Boye is his brother or in-law.

The 32-year-old however did not let the snub affect his performance for the Maroons in their Ligue 1 encounter with Olympique Nimes as he snatched a late winner in the game.

FC Metz begun the match on the front foot by breaking the deadlock through Opa Nguette after just seven minutes in the clock.

But Nimes fought back to draw level four minutes after the break courtesy Lucas Deaux’s close range finish.

The match looked to be heading for a draw after Metz wasted all the chances that came their way.

However, the Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien erupted in the 81st minute after John Boye’s winning goal. The Ghana international rose highest to head home a lofty corner kick by Digbo Maiga.

Boye has been a key cog for the club in the ongoing campaign, playing 24 league matches and contributing 2 goals.
