Sunderland’s John Mensah has rubbished reports in the English media that a bargain deal has been reached for him to stay at the Black Cats permanently.
His agent Fabien Pivateau also insisted that no deal has been reached hinting that Mensah is likely to stay at the end of the season.
Tabloid newspaper News of World reported on Sunday that a £1m bargain deal has been reached with the Ghana captain on loan from Lyon.
The Ghana defender has been on loan with the Black Cats for two years with the paper claiming that a cut-price deal has been agreed.
But Mensah insists negotiations have not been held about his future with Sunderland.
“I was surprised when I saw it on the net. As far as I am concerned, there haven’t been any negotiations regarding my purse,” Mensah said on his official website.
The intelligent player’s frequent injuries notwithstanding, indications are that manager Steve Bruce has plans of retaining the Ghanaian defender.
Playing 25 matches for Sunderland would have triggered an automatic deal with the Black Cats.
But Mensah’s agent insists even though Mensah has 17 matches for the club this term he is likely to be given a deal.
“Even through Mensah has not played the 25 games to secure him a permanent deal, all that I known is that he is Bruce favourite and the manager likes his style,” Pivateau said on to Johntherock5.com.
“There is a probability that Mensah will stay at Sunderland as Sunderland are ready to hold talks with me and Lyon after the end of the session.”
Mensah returned to full time action on Saturday when they defeated Bolton 2-1.
