John Napari for WBF Heavyweight title October 14

Ghana’s heavyweight boxing pride John Napari has the opportunity to up his stakes for a crack at the world title when fights Alexander Petkovic for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Heavyweight title on October 14 in Munich, Bayern, Germany.

31 year old Napari, 13-0 (8 KOs), has sworn to become the first Ghanaian heavyweight world champion and this faces a stern test against Petkovic, also 31 but with a massively experienced record (40-4-4, 20 KOs) who despite hailing from Bosnia is resident in Munich and will therefore be at home.

But according to Matchmaker Solomon Otoo Lartey, Napari is so determined to break new grounds for Ghanaian heavyweights that he will not be affected by the expected hostile home crowd as well the disadvantage of fighting outside the shores of Ghana for the first time ever.

“John (Napari) is a warrior, a true African warrior and we have no doubt that he will bring glory to Ghana. You have to watch him in training and eat back any doubts.

“We have watched many videos of Petkovic and trust me, John will demolish even if the fight was in Petkovic’s own room,” Mr. Otoo Lartey told ALL SPORTS. Napari is expected to leave the country for Germany two weeks to fight in order to acclimatize. He will be accompanied by his trainer Mutari Haruna and Manager Abdul Razak Yakubu.Credit: Prince Dornu-Leiku
