Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has been tipped to join a list of Ghanaian footballers who have successfully transitioned from playing to coaching.

Paintsil, upon hanging his boots in 2016 took up a coaching role at South African side Kaizer Chief but was fired a year into his two-year contract with the club.

Paintsil is currently the head coach of Wa All Stars, a team that was previously owned by former GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Fatau Dauda who has been training with All Stars since his release by Enyimba is is convinced about the coaching credentials of the former Fulham fullback.

Fatau in an interview with GhanaWeb TV said that he expects Paintsil to follow the path of Kwesi Appiah, Maxwell Konadu, Ibrahim Tanko and other former nationals who ventured into coaching after retirement.

He said that Paintsil’s passion and dedication to the sport will make him a successful coach.

“When we were in the national team, he was a nice guy and a motivator so when I heard he has started coaching, I said this man can coach. When he was playing, he played with passion. He is doing well”.

“He knows me and know how good I am. He contacted me and told me Fatau I want to work with you. I want you to come and join my team, lets train and play games. If you don’t travel abroad then you play for me when the league starts. He is still learning and can coach the Black Stars someday. He is an asset for the nation”.

The Ghana Premier League is set for a return on December 28 and Fatau is confident Wa All Stars will win the league competition under Kurt Okraku’s FA.

He noted that with a good blend of youth and experience figures, All Stars can upset the big teams and win their second league title.

“It’s possible because they have done it before and can win it. Now Ghana league every team can win it because All Stars, Aduana, Chelsea have all done it before. At first it used be Hearts, Kotoko and Ashgold but now these clubs are doing well so they can win it, he said.
