John Zile stops Quartey in 3 to annex UBO title in Kumasi

John 'The Monster' Zile is the new Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) international super bantamweight champion after dispatching off veteran Emmanuel 'Akufo-Addo' Quartey in 3 dominant rounds Friday night in Kumasi.

The pride of Dormaa took the fight to his opponent right from the opening bell and never relented, heaping jabs, uppercuts, hooks and hefty body shots on the vastly experienced Quartey in the opening round at the Semanhyia Mall in the Ashanti Regional capital.

The onslaught by the 24-year-old continued in the second stanza, it wasn't too long before Quartey went down on his knees from what appeared to be the effects of the pummeling by Zile. The veteran however complained of a low blow to his private area and had to be attended to by the ringside medic for minutes before the fight resumed.

Zile remained unwavering and mounted an even fierce assault in the remaining time, so much when the bell sounded to end the round, it appeared to have been a saviour for good old Emmanuel Quartey.

It came as no surprise when he failed to answer the bell for round 3, handing Zile the TKO win, improving to 13-0-2, 11 KOs and also claiming the vacant UBO title.

"I thank God this evening for giving us this opportunity and I would also like to thank my manager as well as my coach, the media and all the good people behind me, not forgetting my people back in Dormaa. This title is for all of you," Zile said post-fight.

"This is my second title but it is the most important one for me, it's a step to the next level. I want to be a world champion and this dream must come true, and with this title, I'm hopeful that I will get there. The likes of Casimero, Stephen Fulton, Sam Goodman are the people that I'm targeting now," he added.

Meanwhile in the main event of the show presented by Osibor Boxing Promotions headed by Zile's manager, Gordon Frimpong AKA Osibor, Stanley Nyantakyi AKA Ashanti Warrior made it a winning return to Oseikrom after destroying Isaac Nettey, also in 3 rounds to add the UBO Africa featherweight strap to his collection.

The Ghana and LBO champion was at his punching best, landing some terrific body and head shots, so much that Nettey could not withstand the heat and at a point fell through the ropes as a result of the incessant punishment from Nyantakyi.
