The Ghanaian defender and his team lost 4-0 to Lokomotiv in Saturday’s Russian Premier League game in Moscow
Jonathan Mensah endured a terrible afternoon on Saturday as Anzhi Makachkala lost 4-0 away at Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian Premier League, their worst defeat of the season.
It was the worst performance for the Ghana defender this season as he gave away a penalty in a game where the Anzhi defence looked terribly poor compared to their hosts.
Brazilian Maicon rose above the Anzhi defence to nod in the first goal from a cross by Manuel Fernandes as early as the third minute.
The Anzhi defence was caught napping just a minute later as Maicon once again got onto the end of a shot by Alan Kasaev for an easy tap in. The first half finished 2-0.
After the break, goalkeeper Guilherme Marinato had a moment to forget as he failed to stop a dipping shot from Fernandes which put the game at 3-0.
Mensah then conceded a penalty when he brought down Renat Yanbayev that was converted by Alexander Samedov to round up scoring.
Mensah has been included in the Ghana squad that will face Egypt in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Alexandria next week.
