Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew tasted defeat in his first game of the English Championship following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday.

After 28 consecutive seasons in the English top flight, Aston Villa were relegated for the first time since 1988 after their dire showing in the Premier League last season, when they finished in 20th place with 17 points.

Jordan Ayew, despite being linked with a move away from the club, was handed a starting role up front by Coach Roberto Matteo but failed to score despite creating several goal chances during the entire game.

The former European champions failed to clear their lines following a sliced clearance from goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini in the 85th minute, and the ball fell to Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri who made no mistake from close range handing Villa their first defeat of the campaign.
