Ghana forward Jordan Ayew showcased his striking prowess on Thursday night with a superb goal for Leicester City, but his efforts were not enough as Liverpool staged a comeback to secure a 3-1 victory in the English Premier League.
The experienced Black Stars striker was in the starting lineup for Leicester City in their challenging away fixture at Anfield.
Ayew wasted no time making his mark, scoring just six minutes into the first half.
Receiving a well-placed pass from Stephy Mavididi, the forward demonstrated remarkable composure, slotting the ball past Liverpool’s defence with a clinical finish.
This goal marked Ayew’s fifth of the season, complemented by one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Ayew’s early strike, Liverpool responded with determination. Cody Gakpo equalized in the dying minutes of the first half, ensuring the teams went into the break on level terms.
Liverpool’s dominance grew in the second half, culminating in an extraordinary individual effort from Mohamed Salah in the 83rd minute. Salah’s brilliant run ended with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area, sending the ball into the left side of the net. Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk could do little to stop the decisive goal, sealing the 3-1 victory for the hosts.
Before that goal, Curtis Jones had also equalized to give the hosts the lead for the first time in the game.
While Ayew’s performance provided a moment of hope for Leicester, Liverpool’s resilience and attacking firepower proved too much to handle.
Leicester will look to regroup as they aim to bounce back in their next fixture in the Premier League against Manchester City.
