Controversial sports broadcaster, Patrick Osei Agyemang, commonly known as Countryman Songo, has asserted that Jordan Ayew saved the Black Stars from an embarrassing night against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Songo could not fathom Ghana conceding three goals against a side like CAR and stated that Ayew came through in the clutch to save the night in the 4-3 win.
He blamed the Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for nearly costing the team by pushing his players to play 'beautiful football' while Ghana was in desperate need of a goal.
"You claim you are a good coach. At a time when the game is getting difficult, do you need to play beautiful football to look for the goal? If not for the individual brilliance of players like Jordan Ayew, it would have been a different story. These people (CAR) were able to score three goals," he said on Adom TV.
"If not for Jordan Ayew...He is a fantastic player with a high IQ. If not for that, the coach was rubbish. Total rubbish. What was the coach's system?," he quizzed.
He further descended on goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi over a supposed poor performance.
“Look at your goalkeeper, Ati-Zigi. If we talk about these things, people think we are hating, but if you rely on this goalkeeper, why won't you exit the tournament after three matches? You behave as if we don't have goalkeepers in the country," he added.
The Black Stars had to stage a second-half comeback to record their third slim victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, beating CAR at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024.
A hat-trick from Jordan Ayew and a goal from Fatawu Issahaku gave Ghana the victory over CAR, who also had their star forward, Mafouta, bagging a hat-trick.
The team now holds a 10 percent home record and has also recorded the first back-to-back wins that sent them to the top of the table, tied with Comoros on 9 points.
Madagascar is third with 7 points, followed by Mali, which occupies 4th place with 5 points. The Central African Republic sits 5th with 4 points, and Chad is at the bottom with zero points.
