Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has completed the signing of his seventh non-British player in the current transfer window. Adama Traore completed a £5 million plus add-ons before Aston Villa’s game with Manchester United.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has already signed Ghana international Jordan Ayew, Senegal’s Idrissa Gueye, Benin’s Rudy Gestede, Spain’s Jose Angel Crespo and France internationals Jordan Amavi and Jordan Veretout.
Sherwood defended his transfer business relating it to value for money abroad. The Aston Villa boss said:
“I’ve looked at the English talent to see what’s out there. If it was better than the foreign talent I would have gone down that route. But the value for money is elsewhere.
“Some of the foreign boys we have gone for over the English boys are better. They’ve played a lot of games at a very young age.
“You look at the English boys and they have played five or so games and they cost the same as a guy who has played over 200 games in France. It doesn’t add up.”
Ghana international Jordan Ayew made his Premier League debut for Aston Villa against Christian Atsu’s AFC Bournemouth on the opening weekend.
