Jordan on target for Sochaux

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew scored the opening goal for Sochaux in their 2-2 pulsating stalemate with Bastia in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old fired the visitors in front on the brink of recess before playing part in the sequence of play that resulted in Sochaux’s second goal at the Stade Armand Césari in Furiani.

Jordan, who was on top of his game right from the blast of the referee’s whistle and came close to scoring twice before the half-hour mark but he was denied by the hosts defence.

However, the Olympique Marseille loanee finally got on target on the 45th minute mark. Julien Faussurier raced through the Bastia backline majestically before hitting a neat cross-field weighted volley for Jordan to steer a header home for the opener for his second goal for Sochaux since joining them in January.

Sochaux went flying and doubled their lead just before the break, in first-half stoppage-time, through a Sébastien Corchia right-footed effort.

But Sochaux could not protect their advantage as Bastia returned from the break to equalise all two goals.

Jordan’s goal marks a perfect weekend for the Ayew brothers as Andre Ayew, his elder brother, scored a hat-trick for Olympique Marseille on Friday night.
