Sannie Daara, former Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has addressed the leadership issues within the Black Stars, claiming that head coach Otto Addo contributed to these problems through some of his decisions before and during Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

In an interview with JoyNews, Sannie Daara highlighted how Otto Addo’s decision to make Mohammed Kudus captain during the double-header against Sudan could have sparked unrest within the team.

After Ghana’s goalless draw with Sudan, a video emerged showing Jordan Ayew gesturing and speaking with Kwasi Appiah, coach of the opposing team.

Many speculated that the Leicester City forward was frustrated during the game due to him missing out on the captain’s armband.

Sannie Daara believes this video underscores deeper issues within the team.

“I felt that towards the middle of the qualifiers, where he [Otto Addo] made changes to the team’s leadership. We clearly saw Jordan Ayew complaining to Kwasi Appiah, who is the coach of the opposing team. If you’re an observer, that clearly tells you there’s a problem within the team. I thought it could have been handled better,” he explained.

Sannie Daara also expressed dissatisfaction with Otto Addo’s decision to exclude Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew from the team, suggesting the situation could have been managed more appropriately.

“Taking the decision not to come along with Andre Ayew at a point that he had not taken a decision to exclude himself from the team and he was back playing . I think he should have left the window opened for Andre to make a decision himself,” Sannie Daara added.

Otto Addo’s future with the Black Stars will be decided by the GFA on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. In the last two qualifying games, Addo reversed his decision to make Kudus captain, with Jordan Ayew captaining the team against Angola in Luanda. However, Kudus returned as captain in the final qualifying game against Niger after Jordan sustained an injury in the Angola match.
