KNUST Alumni hold Fun Games

Akuse (E/R), Aug. 24, GNA - The Kwame Nkrummah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will next academic year introduce a degree course in Sports and Exercise Sciences to enable the graduates to scientifically help uplift sports, especially soccer, in the country.

Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice Chancellor of the University announced this at the end of this year's KNUST Alumni Association Inter-Halls Fun Games held at Akuse in the Eastern Region on Saturday. About 200 members drawn from the various chapters of the Association took part in the one-day games of soccer, volleyball, tennis, lawn tennis and draught.

It was aimed at strengthening the already existing relationship between the members.

A combined team of Katanga, Independence and Africa halls defeated a select side , from Republic, Queens and Unity halls 1-0 to win the soccer match.

Prof. Andam said sports have two, positive effects on society. "Firstly, it keeps the people healthy and active, so that, they can, perform their daily duties more effectively and efficiently and ,secondly it creates a prestigious positive image for a country." The Vice Chancellor said the University recognised these good features of sports and have, accordingly provided students with an opportunity to earn credits from sports elective courses. Professor S.O. Asiama, General Secretary of the Association called on members to pay, their dues promptly to, enable it to complete the first phase

of the Students Hostel project, which, when completed, would house about 300 students.
