KNUST To Introduce Courses In Tennis And Swimming

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) would from next academic year introduce courses in swimming and tennis. Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kwesi Andam says the move is to encourage the development of the lesser known sports in the country and to enable the university to produce talented athletes. The University will also introduce courses in music and law.

Speaking at this year(quote)s matriculation ceremony of the university in Kumasi on Saturday, Prof Andam criticised graduates who travel abroad to seek greener pastures. He contends that it is not enough for persons who have gone abroad to send money to their relatives and friends adding that "nations are built with people who are prepared to develop their country and not with absentee technocrats."

He said if the issue is not addressed, the eradication of poverty and disease would elude Ghana and Africa in general.

Four thousand five hundred and fifteen out of 11,650 applicants were admitted into the university this year.
