KP Boateng dazzles as Las Palmas demolish Granada

Two games into the Liga BBVA season, it’s not Barcelona or Real Madrid who sit atop the table, but Kevin-Prince Boateng and Las Palmas.

The Canary Islanders secured one of the headline results of the opening weekend when they won 4-2 away at Champions League-chasing Valencia and followed that up with an eye-catching 5-1 demolition of Granada on Sunday.

For the second game week in succession, Quique Setien’s side have succeeded in securing the outstanding scoreline in the division and now one of only three teams—the others being the Clasico two—who retain a 100 percent record.

Indeed, while Las Palmas have conceded more than the Spanish heavyweights—three compared to Barca’s two and Real’s one—they are the league’s top scorers, having registered nine goals in their first two fixtures, more than Barca (seven) and Real (five).

Prince, a free transfer from AC Milan this season, has been one of the best performers of the season so far and found the net again this weekend when he scored Las Palmas’ second, giving them the lead after Jeremie Boga’s equaliser had cancelled out Nabil El Zhar’s opener.

Morocco wide man El Zhar added a second in the 69th minute as the home side extended their lead before Momo added a fourth in the 73rd minute and Sergio Araujo completed the rout late on.

Prince, who played for 55 minutes on the left side of Setien’s 4-2-3-1 formation, is one of only a handful of players in the league who has scored more than one goal, and finds himself in company alongside the likes of Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi.

Early days, perhaps, but it certainly looks as though Prince may well be returning to his best.
