Accra, Nov. 18, GNA - Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Limited, a cable and conductor manufacturing company at Tema, on Friday presented a cheque of 80 million cedis to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to support the Black Stars participation in next year's World Cup fiesta scheduled for Germany.
The donation adds up to a total of 180 million cedis the amount doled out so far by the company to the GFA. The company last year made a similar donation of 100 million cedis to the Association.
Dr E.K. Annan, Managing Director of the company who made the presentation in Accra on Friday, said the company recognizes the importance of sponsorship for the enhancement of sports and was a very strong basis for national development.
He expressed the hope that the donation would motivate the team to lift high Ghana's flag at the World Cup come next year. Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, Acting Chairman of the GFA who received the donation expressed the association's gratitude for the company's contributions.
He said contributions so far made by corporate bodies have in no small measure impacted positively on the team, hence their victory over the Saudi Arabian national team and which would obviously boost FIFA's ranking of Ghana from its present stand at the 51st position. Mr Nyantakyi gave the assurance that the financial support would be put to good use and called on other corporate bodies and institutions to emulate the shining example of the company.
