Keep on fighting - Sea Lions coach urges players

Elmina Sea Lions head coach, Eddy Williams, has encouraged his players to keep fighting for the National Women’s League title, stating that the 2-point lead Lady Strikers have over his team is easily surmountable.

He was speaking to Sharks News after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Police Ladies at the Military Academy and Training School Park.

Coach Eddy Williams believes the league title has been thrown wide open with the victory as they now lie in second place, two points behind Lady Strikers, who won against Sea Lions at the Nduom Stadium on the second leg of their league tie after drawing blank in Cape Coast in the first round.

Coach Williams therefore, wants his ladies to tighten the noose on the neck of Lady Strikers by winning all their remaining games while hoping for a slip.

“We played well because I know how the Police Ladies play. I mapped up a strategy to contain them so that when they are frustrated we will pounce and it duly worked out.’

…We have our sight set on the league title, once we are able to win all our remaining games, which include a game against Immigration Ladies at home we can then hope that Lady Strikers will slip which we will be able to take advantage of. So we are upbeat about our chances and will keep fighting until it’s over.’

Sea Lions have suffered series of defeats against Samaria Ladies and Lady Strikers in the National Women’s League and a controversial FA cup quarter final defeat to Immigration at the Carl Reindorf Park, Dansoman an incident they have filed a protest against referee Joyce Obenewaa who officials of the team believe were abysmal on the day.

The game was inching to a goalless draw before substitute Alice Sarpong struck the winner minutes after coming on to replace Olivia Anokye.

Sea Lions next play Holy Royals at Ajumako next week Sunday and welcome Immigration Ladies to Elmina in a fortnight. Victories in these encounters will help them mount a sustained pressure on the leaders with the season gradually drawing to a close.
