Asante Kotoko and Ghana football legend Malik Jabir has expressed reservations about the possibility of the Ghana Premier League season resuming.
The 2019-20 Ghana Football season has been suspended by the Ghana Football Association due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The suspension which happened on March 15th was in conformity with government-imposed directives to ban all forms of public gatherings in a bid to curtail the spread of the Corona Virus.
As the Football fraternity continues to debate on the future of the season, the Ghana FA has taken a much calmer approach while engaging various stakeholders on the way forward with a deadline of June 30 set.
Malik Jabir, however, believes the current makeup of the Ghana Premier League will be unable to support the resumption of the season amid the COVID-19 outbreak
“Look at the number of cases we are getting day in day out. And we don’t know when this disease will stop,” he said.
“Which Ghanaian team can play in empty stadium until the end of the season? No team can do that, even when they were playing with fans, the monies they were getting was peanuts.
“It can’ pay players, it can’t solve problems, now you going to play in an empty park are we causing suicide or not.
“So we should just keep quiet till nature will come out and say no virus.
“When we see that, nobody will tell authorities to say the league is cancelled or should come on,” Malik Jabir concluded.
