The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have appointed Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren as the new head coach of the Black Queens, replacing former coach Nora Hauptle.

Björkegren brings eighteen years of experience and holds a UEFA License A. He has managed various teams in Sweden and other countries.

Some of his notable achievements include winning the Cyprus top Women's league with Apollon Ladies and leading Linköpings FC to victory in the Damallsvenskan (Swedish Women's top league). In the 2020-2021 season, he was named Coach of the Season in Cyprus.

Björkegren shares a record with renowned coach Sven-Göran Eriksson as the second Swedish manager to win two domestic titles in two different countries.

He has also coached Beijing BG Phoenix in the Chinese Super League, finishing third in both the Chinese Women's FA Cup and Super Cup in 2018.

Additionally, he has worked as a Technical Director of Manila Digger FC in the Philippines and coached several male teams in the Swedish Football League system.

Björkegren has experience working with the Finland Women's National team as a scout and analyst.

Most recently, he managed Racing Louisville in the National Women's Soccer League in the United States.

Björkegren's coaching philosophy emphasizes possessive, attacking football that is purposeful and entertaining. He aims to utilize his players' skills effectively, making him a flexible and adaptable coach.

With his extensive experience in women's football, Björkegren is expected to lead the Black Queens to success, including winning the Women's African Cup of Nations and securing qualification to the Women's World Cup.
