Richard Kingson is in a race against time to determine whether he will be fit for Blackpool's premier league game against Manchester United on Tuesday.
The Ghana first choice was substituted in the second half of Blackpool's meeting with Asamoah Gyan's Sunderland after he was caught by the boot of Bolo Zenden when diving bravely to the feet of the Sunderland midfielder last Saturday.
Kingson has had eight stitches to the head and is hoping he can face United's big guns in their rescheduled League game on Tuesday.
But Paul Rachubka who was more than an able deputy for the Ghanaian is hoping he did enough to get the starting slot.
Richard has had eight stitches to his head which isn't nice and you don't wish that on anybody but it doesn't look good.
