Kingson not guaranteed first team play

Deputy General Secretary in charge of Communications at the Ghana Football Association Ibrahim Sannie Diarra says experienced Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Kingson is not guaranteed a starting place in the Black Stars team ahead of the game against Egypt this month.

The veteran goalkeeper is returning to the Black Stars team for the first time, with his inclusion sparking speculation that he will start Ghana’s World Cup qualifying first leg match against Egypt on October 15 in Kumasi.

Sannie Daara, speaking to pressmen at the conference room of the GFA, however indicated that the former Wigan and Blackpool goalkeeper is not guaranteed a starting role and will have to fight for role together with the other two goalkeepers Fatau Dauda and Adam Kwarasey.

“Richard Kingson has been one of the best performing players outside as well as one of the hardest working players abroad.

“He might have been out of action for some time now but he has returned to action with his club in Cyprus. The coach has gone there to see him last week Sunday and he was the best player in that game.

"I saw his last match and he has served this country so well, people can have their views on who a player is. He was in excellent form the last time I saw him but the coach stands in a better position to judge him.

“He has had the opportunity to compare him with two other players. Apart from that the fact that he has been called into the national team straight away does not mean that he will be in the post because he is competing with two other players.”
