Asante Kotoko are set to terminate the contract of head coach Kjetil Zachariassen after failing to guide the club to either of the Group stages of CAF’s inter-clubs competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors disgracefully exited the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday after a 2-0 defeat to San Pedro in the play-off round second leg fixture in Abidjan.

With the first leg in Kumasi ending in a narrow 1-0 victory for Kotoko, San Pedro advanced to the money zone on a 2-1 aggregate score.

FootballMadeInGhana understands that, management of Kotoko have decided to part ways with the Norwegian trainer who has failed to satisfy the terms of his contract.

A portion of Zachariassen’s contract reads “Kjetil Zachariassen’s contract would see him through the 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, and he is expected to lead the Porcupines to the group stage of the Champions League in the first season.

“The second-year should also see him qualify the team for the Champions League again with the target of a semi-final berth.

“The Champions League qualification is also expected the following year, this time around with a place in the final on the cards.

“The Porcupines would take solace in three CAF Confederation Cup campaigns within Kjetil Zachariassen’s three-year period should they fail to make the Champions League mark.”

“The club, however, expects to win at least one of the three competitions within the period of the relationship with the coach.”

Zachariassen was appointed in July this year as replacement CK Akonnor who was shockingly relieved of his duties after steering them to the Group stage of the continent’s second-tier competition.
