The 2025 Independence Armwrestling Challenge, scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025, will take place at Centre Point Mall, Accra, commemorating Ghana’s Independence Celebration, Ghana Month, and the Golden Arms’ outstanding performance at the 13th African Games, where they secured 41 medals.
The event will host distinguished guests, including sports & recreational minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and other notable figures such as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, MP for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere Duah, Dr. Bello Bitigu, Kwadwo Baah Agyeman, and members of the Ghana Armwrestling Board, alongside representatives from the corporate sector.
Athletes from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo will join Team Ghana in an electrifying showcase of strength and skill. World Champion Grace Minta leads Ghana’s squad, which includes Wisdom Abromekyi, Mabel Yeboah, Edward Asamoah, Joseph Tabel, Daniel Acquah, and Florence Boakye. The team has been in camp for weeks, preparing to compete across various weight categories for ultimate bragging rights.
According to Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of Ghana and Africa Armwrestling, the championship is part of efforts to celebrate Ghana’s recent success on the continental stage while preparing for future international competitions.
"Armwrestling is now a household sport and has become the sport of choice. We made history at the African Games, and Ghanaians have since shown immense love for the sport," he stated.
He urged Ghanaians to turn out in large numbers to support Golden Arms as they aim for yet another triumph.
