The teaching pro at both Tarkwa and Damang golf clubs Kojo Barnni, has retained his title won last year at 2018 Gold Fields Professional Golfers Association Championship held at Damang in the Western Region. Barnni, returned -9 over four days after scoring a total gross score of 279 in 72 holes in four rounds played. The champion started the competition he promised to win with -5 and two strokes lead to Emos Korblah and Ivorian Kouassi Romaric in the opening day who both scored 69. Kojo continue in day two with 69, -1 in the third day and finished level course par to win the championship on forth and final day.
Kojo who walked home by his splendid performance with the grand first price money of thirty-five thousand cedis GHS 35,000.00 has become the only professional golfer in Africa to win and defended the title back to back since it inception in 2014.
Vincent Torgah won the maiden edition but lost it to Emos the following year. Vincent came back again in 2016 but again couldn't hold it as he was beaten in playoff by Kojo Barnni who has successfully defended it.
In an interview with the sports media after his sweet victory on Saturday, he revealed although he was a bit nervous in the last round he knew he was winning so he kept his focus and calm on his game plan even when the course was playing difficult.
This is my home, this is my time, this is my course and my fans wanted it and I delivered it to them especially at the time the course was playing hard in hole 15 he added.
Barnni said the victory was not by chance so he thanked Emos Korblah, Vincent Torgah, Oche Andrew Odoh, Kouassi Romantic, Visitor Mapwanya, Samba Niang and all other for giving me good run of my money.
When asked of his plans in 2019, Kojo said he will be travelling more next year to play in outside competition such as WAC tour, USA and other open professional golf championships to better my play.
