In the wake of calamitous performances of Ghanaian clubs in continental matches and the poor patronage of the domestic league, many are forced to scrutinize Nyantakyi’s tenure of office, but surely not the Regional FA chairman of the Western Region.
Mr. Kojo Yankah says only Ohene Djan performed better than the current FA boss in terms of achievement and development of the game in Ghana.
In an interview on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, the affable FA chairman for the region voiced his admiration for the good work done by the current FA boss.
He tasked Ghanaians to change their attitude towards the poor patronage of the league, citing European leagues as the main headache for local football.
“Tell me which chairman has been able to do what Nyantakyi did apart from the first one, Ohene Djan? Which of the past FA chairmen achievements can be compared to Nyantakyi,” he asked.
On the successes achieved by the ever smiling Nyantakyi, Mr. Yankson cited world cup qualification and improved sponsorship for the league. “He has been able to give us Prampram Ghanaman center of excellence.
He has been able to lure better sponsors for the league and others. As for the three World Cup appearances, I will not talk about them,” the Western Regional FA chairman listed.
When questioned on the poor patronage of the league, Mr. Kojo Yankson called for change of attitude rather than blame games. “If people don’t go to stadiums to watch league matches, it is because of British football which even forced Germany, France and Italy to change their calendar.
The Ghana league was one time rated third in Africa under Nyantakyi. He has improved the league tremendously. What has Ben Kuoffie done or Nana Sam Buttler? Tell me one,” he rhetorically asked.
Nyantakyi’s tenure has seen Ghana play in three consecutive World Cups, lost in two nation’s cup final showdowns, and won the 2009 World Youth Championship in Egypt.
