Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu says Avram Grant was right to name a star-studded squad to face Rwanda in the last game of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on September 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars have already booked their ticket for the tournament after amassing 13 points, with a section of Ghanaians arguing that Grant ought to have given opportunities to home-based players to reduce cost of camping.
“The fans out there are saying we should have used a local squad and some say we should have left out some players but I think we also have a manager who wants to be consistent as he’s been doing. So let’s all support the team," Konadu told Otec FM.
“For me, I don’t think it was all wrong to call the same squad Ghanaians are familiar with for the last game against Rwanda. We also have players in the team who have not been getting their chances to show what they can also do, so it can be an opportunity for them to also prove a point” he added.
Goal understands that Youth and Sports minister will be meeting the Black Stars management committee next week on how to reduce the cost of preparations ahead of the qualifier.
